The Newest Mural in Downtown Kamloops: Electric Alley

As the newest edition to the collection of murals throughout the back alleys of Downtown Kamloops, Electric Alley stands out both day and night for its creative use of fluorescent lights.
Located on 540 Victoria Street behind the Delta Hotel, the geometric design was painted by Kelly Wright in October of 2023, making it the most recent addition to the many diverse murals throughout Downtown Kamloops. Art of all shapes and designs has become a staple of the Downtown landscape since the first mural was created in 2000, with new additions being added nearly each year to the Back Alley Art Gallery.
The gallery has been an ongoing project organized by the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association since 2010, the murals being created to liven up the busy streets of Kamloops, create a brighter and more welcoming environment, and showcase artists’ work.
As one of over 30 murals in the Back Alley Art Gallery, Electric Alley differs from the rest due to its use of fluorescent lights. Installed in 2024, the lights change the mural and the atmosphere in the alley at night, creating a pronounced and easily visible display for those enjoying the night life of Kamloops.

History of Brewing, located on 355 Lansdowne Street. Created by Kelly Wright in 2016.
Electric Alley is one of five light displays created for Illuminate Kamloops, an initiative announced by Tourism Kamloops in 2023 as a collaboration with the City of Kamloops and local businesses brighten unique locations throughout the city, such as the Old Courthouse at 7 West Seymour Street and the BC Wildlife Park.
As no upcoming installations for either Illuminate Kamloops or the Back Alley Art Gallery have been announced, Electric Alley remains unique in its combination of geometric art and fluorescent lights, reflecting the connection between the people of Kamloops and the city itself.
