The art of campus: TRU’s Creative Tapestry

Imagine walking through a university where every step feels like entering a new chapter of a story. At Thompson Rivers University (TRU), art and architecture don’t just exist—they come alive, weaving a vibrant tapestry of creativity and culture.

The Canvas Comes Alive

Your journey begins with a pack of wolves circling a roundabout. These aren’t just sculptures—they’re storytellers. Created by artist “Braden Keifuk”, the wolves carry the legends of the Secwepemc people, the original stewards of this land. When the sunlight hits their metallic surfaces, they seem to shimmer, as if whispering secrets of the past.

A Gallery Without Walls

TRU’s campus is more than a place to study—it’s an open-air gallery. With 140 artworks scattered across public spaces, every corner offers a visual surprise. “The Old Main Building”, with its classic brick facade and iconic clock tower, stands as a proud reminder of TRU’s history. The tower, with its timeless design, feels like a bridge between the past and present, while the International Building’s sustainable design reflects TRU’s global vision.

Art at TRU isn’t just about what’s on display—it’s about who creates it. Students here are the heartbeat of the campus’s creative energy. When faced with challenges, they didn’t back down. Instead, they rallied together and created the “Our Voice” exhibition, a showcase of their talent, resilience, and vision.

Why This Matters

In a world dominated by screens, TRU’s commitment to tangible art feels almost revolutionary. It’s not just about making the campus look pretty—it’s about creating an environment that sparks creativity, fosters cultural understanding, and prepares students for a world that values innovation and artistic expression.
